Mat Class exercise "Boomerang"

“Pilates training has improved my Dressage riding by strengthening my core muscles and encouraging balance and straightness.”

Corine Rushin, Purely Pilates Client

Events & Workshops

Purely Pilates offers workshops to clients as well as to Pilates instructors. Workshops are to offer more information that might be of interest to our clientele such as a foam roller or stretching workshop that is not part of our current class offerings. Continuing education workshops for Pilates teachers will be offered periodically and are open to all teachers from all training backgrounds. We are open to hearing your requests for workshops and will offer them based on demand and availability of instructors to teach them.

Upcoming Events:

Bob Liekens returns August 27-28

Friday, August 27

Semi-Private Sessions w/ Bob - By appt only - 9:00am - 12:00pm

Super Advanced Cadillac w/ Bob 2:00-5:00pm

As with the Reformer, we know, practice and teach it on a regular basis is a familiar message. Was that everything Uncle Joe ever created for the Cadillac? No, there is more. We will explore the “next steps” for your intermediate to advanced level clientele and review what is known as the super/advanced level exercises on the Cadillac!

Prerequisite: Intermediate level teaching experience on the Cadillac.

Saturday, August 27

Advanced Mat w/ Bob (limited to 25 people) 10:00am

Barrel Progressions w/ Bob - 12:00-2:00pm

Joseph Pilates created a beautiful progression on an often-overlooked piece of equipment, the Barrel. Wipe the dust off your Barrel and remember what a great piece of equipment it can be! The Barrel allows access to gradually open two very restricted areas of our body, the hips and shoulders. We will work through this progression from the Small Barrel up to the Ladder Barrel in such a way that it becomes easier to incorporate the Barrels into almost every workout.

Prerequisite: Beginner and intermediate mat teaching experience.

Mat with Weights w/ Allison Gonzalez - 12:00-2:00pm

Learn or review Magic Circle and free weight exercises that pair well with the pilates mat work that you are already teaching. Be prepared to move!

Prerequisite: Open to all Mat certified instructors.

Art of touch and cue or verbal cuing w/ Bob - 2:30-4:30pm

Explore the aspect of touch and its importance in the field of health and fitness. “Touch” has endless meaning and effects. The value of augmenting your teaching through touch is paramount to one’s ability to succeed. We will help you define your boundaries, yet implement the power of touch.

Also, we, as instructors, sometimes question if we are telling the student too much or too little. Have you ever wondered, “Why do I feel I am talking/teaching so much and my client still isn’t getting it?” During this workshop, we will also look at appropriate cueing – verbal, as well as tactile. We will also discuss how to efficiently convey the wealth of information without flooding the client. Our philosophy has always been “appropriate cueing at the appropriate time.”

Prerequisite: Mat and/or apparatus teaching experience.

Basics of Anatomy – Krisna Hanks 2:30-5:30pm

This is a study of basic anatomical language, which contains an introduction to planes of movement and major concepts of the skeletal and muscular systems. The course includes an outline, literature and hands on experience.

Prerequisite: Ideal for instructors and clients who have minimal or no previous anatomical knowledge. Bring your Anatomy of Movement book. This course is a prerequisite for all Power Pilates apparatus programs (unless you can provide proof of attendance in a course within the last five years).
