The Purely Pilates Scoop

Pilates - The original core conditioning!

January 2006 Issue #1

In this issue...

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the first newsletter from Purely Pilates! We hope that this New Year finds you happy and healthy and that Purely Pilates can help you to achieve all of your fitness objectives for 2006. To keep you up with some of our latest changes we are starting this newsletter with tips, new trends and new classes to help you, our wonderful clients.

Here is a great plan for success: kick off the New Year with a few private sessions. The role of private sessions is to make sure you're working safely, to know the modifications that may be appropriate for any past injuries that you are working through and to break through plateaus in your training. If you need the current appointment and class schedule follow this link to the Purely Pilates Class Schedule. Then email us or call to sign up for the classes of your choice. By the way, feel free to give us your wish list for classes or workshops for 2006. We're here to give you the best core conditioning available.

Teacher Training offered through Power Pilates of NYC

Purely Pilates is now an Affiliate Studio of Power Pilates in NYC, a classical Pilates Teacher Training Center that is internationally renowned. We will be the only studio in the Bay Area offering this high level of Pilates Teacher Certification. Power Pilates has the most comprehensive certification program that is true to the Classical Pilates Method that we teach at our studio. All of the teachers at Purely Pilates are classically trained.

There will be five training weekends starting with a basic mat certification and followed by the four comprehensive training weekends. Between each monthly training there are apprentice hours to complete that include observation and practice teaching. We will have the dates soon and will add a page to our web site about this wonderful training. In the meantime check out www.powerpilates.com for more information about Power Pilates.

What does this mean for you? If you or someone you know has thought about becoming a Pilates Certified Instructor, perhaps you're ready for a second career (sick of the corporate life!), or you're looking for flexible, extra income, this may be the move you've been looking for.

If you're not interested in the certification but you have wanted to take private lessons in conjunction with your classes and have been scared off by the price, you might consider working with an apprentice when our program begins. Working with apprentices will be at a reduced fee but available only for healthy individuals. If you are coming back from an injury or have special needs we prefer that you work with a certified instructor only.

Let us know if you would like more information about the certification or to be on a list to work with an apprentice. The program will start in mid 2006! For more information email Allison at: info@purely-pilates.com.

Add cardio to your workout...

Don't forget that we have a great elliptical machine that is free for you to use before or after your class. Use of the machine is first-come-first-serve basis! Come early before your session or stay late and work out for 15-20 minutes. This is a great way to warm up and to get the cardio work out to complement your Pilates session.

By the way, if you have a piece of equipment that you are not using that would be a great addition to our studio, please let Allison know! Our elliptical machine was donated to us by one of our fabulous clients. We'd love to add professional level equipment to the cardio collection.

Massage therapy at Purely Pilates

We are very happy welcome massage therapy to the services provided at our studio. Vince Baza is a licensed massage therapist & Shiatsu Practitioner. He has been a practitioner & instructor for 9 years. His background includes many years as a wrestler and coach and he brings his understanding and technical skill of body mechanics and movement to bear in his bodywork.

He studied Zen Shiatsu with Maria Torregrosa & Aleia Baza, whose teacher, Edward Bailey, was a primary disciple of the renowned Shizuto Masanaga. Vince continued to deepen his knowledge and understanding of Shiatsu through a year-long apprenticeship with Ashiatsu (barefoot shiatsu) master Edward Spencer and through teaching community and professional level training courses in the Bay Area. Additionally, he studied Tui Na (a Chinese table form similar to shiatsu) and Acupressure.

Vince offers therapeutic massages & table shiatsu @ $90 per session (roughly 70 minutes). Vince will be doing massages at Purely Pilates on Mondays and Wednesdays. Give Vince a call or email for questions or to schedule appointments. Contact info: 650-678-2925 or Email: vcbaza@sbcglobal.net

Whether Vince Baza's massage is light, medium or deep work, it's creative, relaxing & thorough.

Looking for a Web Designer...

Are you a web designer and Pilates enthusiast? We've had the same web page design since we started Purely Pilates in 2001. It has served us well but it's time for a revamped page. How would you like to trade Pilates for web design? Do you know someone who could help us out? Please email at info@purely-pilates.com or call 650-593-4366 if you are interested.
