HI EVERYONE!
I can't believe it is that time again already - the kids are back in school and we need to think about ways to stay in shape as the days get shorter and we spend less time outdoors. Take a
look at our Webscheduler to find some new classes to help you
tone up...
PURELY PILATES' CONTINUING ED SCHEDULE
Some of the dates are TBA or topics may change based upon interest level so be sure and email Allison to suggest topics and workshops of interest.
Our full workshop schedule can be found on our website on the Workshop page, but here are some upcoming highlights:
FOAM ROLLER WORKSHOP - Sept 26 - 12-2pm 2 PP CECs
Learn how to complement your traditional Pilates routine with the foam roller.
Add a whole new dimension to your Pilates matwork. This versatile cylinder-shaped prop makes for a great workout. Practice Pilates exercises on this unstable surface and feel your Powerhouse work harder than ever. The deep muscles of the back and abdomen have to work to keep you stable and in proper alignment. This not only helps to improve standing balance, but also sharpens body awareness.
We will finish this workshop with a self-massage by using your own body weight on the roller to stretch and iron out those tight spots. This tool, frequently used in physical therapy, can be used to make mat exercises either more manageable, or more challenging.
Complement your traditional Pilates routine with the foam roller.
INSTRUCTOR: Nancy Chin
Nancy Chin has been teaching Pilates since 2000 after a dozen years as a journalist. She holds a B.S. degree in kinesiology and psychology from UCLA. She has been trained in classical Pilates by Allison Gonzales of Power Pilates, and was certified in New York City by Bob Liekens. Nancy is also certified in a more rehabilitative approach of the Pilates Method by Polestar Education in matwork, and by Elizabeth Larkam for studio apparati. She holds certifications from the Pilates Method Alliance, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Council on Exercise. Nancy is certified in in prenatal exercise and continued practicing Pilates during pregnancy. She lives in the Bay Area and has three children.
Once a competitive tennis player and marathon runner, she sought out Pilates as a reprieve from high-impact exercise. She was soon surprised to discover new core strength and a whole new outlook on exercise. Nancy takes the time to strike a partnership with each client, pushing them to achieve their individual goals. She believes that people are often capable of more than they think. Nancy used Pilates to help recover from hip surgery and saw firsthand how Pilates can be adapted to bodies of all shapes and fitness levels.
