LEARNING FROM A MASTER
 |
Allison, Jay Grimes and Karen Frischmann |
We were lucky to have Jay Grimes, an "elder" who worked in Joseph Pilates studio in NYC in the 50s and 60s, visit our studio recently to teach an Advanced Mat Class, a Workshop and two days of Duet classes. He was assisted by Karen Frischmann, the daughter of our clients, Don and Pat Frischmann.
During all of the events, Jay shared stories with us of how the exercises have evolved from the original exercises that he practiced with Joe and Clara.

Jay teaches an Advanced Mat class |
For example, did you know that Joseph Pilates didn't teach matwork each time he met with his client? No, he taught it and then expected the client to do his or her matwork for homework - then they would work on the various apparatus during private sessions. Jay also said that the Mat exercises were the heart of Pilates.
Our time with Jay was inspiring for all and we thank him for visiting!

Check out our Webscheduler to see what new classes have been added. We have a large poster at the studio where you can also suggest classes or you can send us an email if you would like to suggest a day and / or time for a new class. Based upon feedback, we've just added another Basic Mat Class on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm.

NEW DATES FOR TEACHER TRAINING ANNOUNCED!
Purely Pilates, the exclusive Power
Pilates affiliate in the Bay Area, will be holding the next series of teacher training classes beginning this June.
The Basic Mat certification weekend is a prerequisite to the Comprehensive Training and will be held on June 5-7, 2009. We will also be providing certification in Intermediate Mat and Advanced Mat in mid-June and early July. We will offer a discount if you take all three Mat Certification weekends this year.
For the Comprehensive training there will be a series of
four 3-day weekend workshops with the dates in July, August, September and October. These dates may seem far in the future, but we encourage you to
register now to reserve your spot.
Power Pilates has developed teaching tools to help with the development
of the best teachers, as well as to add skill to the experienced teacher. The
only prerequisite to the class is memorizing the 18 exercises of the basic
mat and some anatomy reading. Contact Allison Gonzalez, the teacher trainer for Purely Pilates at Allison@purely-pilates.com for
more information.
You
will receive a complete manual and will be on your way to becoming
a certified Pilates instructor. Please visit our Teacher Training page for more information and to download the application.
